An expanding cattle enterprise outside of Katherine, Northern Territory, is seeking experienced and confident Pen Riders to join their team.
This is a career-progressive opportunity for capable Pen Riders looking to develop within a growing operation. Applicants must have previous feedlot, cattle-handling and horse-riding experience, with the ability to confidently undertake all facets of pen riding.
This is a team-focused workplace, so applicants must communicate well, support those around them and work cooperatively as part of the wider feedlot team.
The Role
Duties will include:
- Riding pens and monitoring cattle health and behaviour.
- Identifying sick, injured or shy-feeding cattle.
- Pulling and moving cattle safely from pens.
- Assisting with drafting, processing and livestock handling.
- Checking water troughs, fencing, gates and pen conditions.
- Maintaining accurate livestock health records.
- Following low-stress stock-handling and animal welfare practices.
- Assisting with general feedlot duties as required.
What We’re Looking For
Applicants must have:
- Previous feedlot and pen-riding experience.
- Strong cattle-handling skills.
- Proven horse-riding and horsemanship experience.
- Confidence across all facets of pen riding.
- A sound understanding of cattle health, behaviour and welfare.
- The ability to communicate clearly and work effectively as part of a team.
- A willingness to support other team members and assist wherever required.
- The fitness and physical ability required for the position.
- A current driver’s licence and reliable vehicle.
- Work-related references relevant to feedlot, cattle or horse work.
- A reliable and self-motivated approach.
Applicants may bring a maximum of three suitable working horses. All horses must be experienced and familiar with feedlot work.
