An excellent opportunity is available for an Experienced Farm Hand to join a progressive, privately owned dryland cropping operation based outside Moree, within reach of Moree, Goondiwindi and Warialda.

Working within a small team, they are looking for someone who is genuinely passionate about agriculture, mature, responsible and capable of working independently. Just as importantly, you will be willing to learn, ask questions and share similar values around safety, respect, machinery care and sustainable farming practices.

The operation is continuing to grow, providing potential for the right person to develop their skills and take on greater responsibility over time.

The Operation
The farming program includes dryland broadacre crops such as:

  • Wheat
  • Chickpeas
  • Canola
  • Faba beans
  • Sorghum
  • Potentially cotton

— There is no livestock work involved.

The operation also has approximately 5,000 tonnes of on-farm grain storage, with silo maintenance and grain out-loading required throughout the year.

The Role
This is a varied, hands-on position covering all areas of the cropping operation. Responsibilities will include:

  • Sowing, spraying, harvesting, spreading and paddock preparation
  • Operating new and modern tractors, headers, sprayers and planting equipment
  • Independently calculating and mixing chemical rates
  • Chemical batching, application and decontamination
  • Unloading and outloading grain
  • Silo maintenance across approximately 5,000 tonnes of on-farm grain storage
  • Liaising with agronomists and assisting with monitoring crop and soil health
  • Using modern farming software, including John Deere Operations Center and Agworld
  • Maintaining accurate chemical inventory, chemical usage and paddock records
  • Reporting regularly to the Farm Manager
  • Supervising seasonal workers during peak sowing and harvest periods
  • Completing machinery and equipment pre-start checks
  • General maintenance of machinery, vehicles, small motors and farm infrastructure
  • Assisting with machinery servicing, welding and workshop duties
  • Reporting machinery faults and maintenance requirements promptly
  • Keeping machinery, vehicles and work areas exceptionally clean and tidy
  • Participating in weekly toolbox talks
  • Following farm policies, safe work procedures and emergency processes
  • Maintaining professional relationships with agronomists, contractors, suppliers and other businesses

About You
To be successful, you will need:

  • Previous broadacre farming experience
  • A genuine passion for agriculture
  • Experience operating modern agricultural machinery and technology
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • A mature, responsible and safety-conscious approach
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a small team
  • A strong work ethic and willingness to ask questions
  • Good observation skills and an interest in learning how the operation is run
  • Mechanical aptitude and general maintenance experience
  • Welding ability
  • A current driver’s licence
  • Relevant work-related references

Previous experience operating a self-propelled sprayer and completing chemical batching will be highly regarded, as spraying forms a significant part of this position.

An HR truck licence is preferred but not essential.

Training and Development
Initial training and supervision will be provided across the operation. Safe work procedures are formally completed, and the successful person will be signed off as competent once the required training has been completed.

Hours and Conditions

  • Permanent full-time position
  • Approximately 40-50 hours per week, Monday to Friday, during normal operations
  • Weekend work required during busy periods such as planting and harvest, but not every weekend
  • Fortnightly pay
  • Pay rate to be discussed based on experience and qualifications
  • Farm vehicle provided for work use only
