An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Cropping Operations Manager to join a progressive farming business near St George, overseeing 27,500 hectares of irrigated and dryland cropping operations.
About the Role:
This senior position provides the opportunity to lead a dynamic team across 3,000 hectares of irrigated cropping (primarily cotton) and 22,000 hectares of dryland cropping, including wheat, barley, and pulses. We are seeking someone hands-on, proactive, and committed to optimising productivity, efficiency, and sustainability.
You will oversee and coordinate both contractors and a skilled in-house team operating our modern fleet of John Deere and Case machinery. Providing leadership, mentoring, and hands-on support is key — you’ll be ready to step into any role when needed, troubleshoot issues, and ensure efficient day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan crop rotations based on market trends, climate, and soil health.
- Oversee land preparation and planting to maximise yields.
- Manage irrigation systems to ensure water efficiency and compliance.
- Monitor soil health, fertilisation, pest, weed, and disease control.
- Coordinate harvesting operations to optimise quality and yield.
- Lead and develop farm managers, agronomists, operators, and seasonal workers.
- Manage farm machinery maintenance and resource deployment.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and industry regulations.
- Develop and manage budgets, monitor costs, and track financial performance.
- Engage with suppliers, contractors, agronomists, and industry partners.
About You:
- Experience in intensive row cropping and broadacre farming
- Previous management experience or a leading hand ready to step up
- Strong practical ability to operate and troubleshoot farming machinery
- Skilled communicator with excellent organisational skills
- Positive leadership style, capable of cultivating a supportive and productive team environment
- Hands-on, proactive, and solutions-focused
